Labour Party unleash Mandy on Second Life

Peter Mandelson, business secretary for the UK government, a man who could teach Jack Linden a thing or two about spin (I'll blog nicely about Jack soon, he does many great things), is unleashing himself within Second Life in the near future.

"Mandy", the comeback king will be part of the Labour Party's move to embrace new media. Having experience in both the UK government and European Union, he is more than welcome to come and discuss politics at Bella's Cafe on my island, indeed I'd love him to do so and explain why the hell I have to pay VAT for a service where neither the UK government or European Union are adding any value.

Peter Mandelson's arrival is being coupled with a new blog from the Labour Party that officially launces on February 12th, he hints at his Second Life presence in his first blog post on the site that is currently considered to be in the beta stage. Whether they actually embrace the new media remains to be seen, but one area where Second Life can certainly deliver is with discussion and debate, as those who have ever been to Extropia can testify. Sophrosyne Stevenaag has a good thing going there, I really should visit more often and as New World Notes reports, they have the Sci Fi author Kim Stanley Robinson visiting there on Saturday at noon. { Read more }

If Linden Lab Ran The United States

Just think: If Linden Lab were to run the United States...

  • There would be no invasion and/or occupation of foreign countries. People would just buy new simulators.
  • If you wanted to be a citizen with Rights, you simply buy an annual subscription to the United States. Or you can wander around the United States in eternal vagrancy.
  • The banking industry would not be in trouble because it would not exist.
  • There would be no true real estate market; Linden Lab would keep making more land.
  • There would be no 'Pro-Choice' or 'No-Choice' issue on abortion.
  • Gay marriage would not be an issue.
  • Shooting or otherwise attacking other people could result in you being exiled.
