WSE's Live Announcement Redux (2/28/2007)
Being a little distracted, I almost missed LukeConnell Vandeverre's live talk yesterday at 4 p.m. PST - almost, since I was able to watch the recorded version today on the WSE Live site. As you can see, in the image, he is speaking in person instead of through his avatar - and has pretty much restated everything he said in the initial live announcement that I wrote of earlier (WSE's Live Announcement Redux).
Some things worth noting:
- Luke's wearing a nice WSE tie. Expect a CafePress store.
- While he again drew the distinction about 'limited license to use' with the Linden dollar, and added some really nice PR material for Linden Lab, he later almost fumbled while talking about the second WSE closure (along the lines of this): He almost said Linden Dollars instead of his 'limited license' in conjunction with 'loss of millions of...' Funny.
- He begins rocking back and forth about 1/3 of the way through. Very exciting. Suggest sitting for the next video, Luke. Works a lot better.
So - basically, this was the same speech as covered in WSE's Live Announcement Redux with Luke showing his real world avatar.
I do believe he believes what he is saying. The question is whether I do - and I obviously see a lot of holes in what he is saying. I do have to respect what he is trying to do - but respecting the goal does not include respecting the means by which he is trying to attain his goal.
Meanwhile, other exchanges are trying to grow.

Cafepress Store? Wrong wrong wrong.
Not Cafepress... it's Zazzle, LOL
And also... if you click the new store link on the WSE homepage, click on the men's tee shirt. I didn't know men had breasts that large and prominent!
SLCapEx looked into doing RL promo items one time... I think the decision was made that that is overly DORKY. Who would actually wear any of this stuff in public? I wouldn't, just because I would be too embarrassed to answer the question, "What is WSE?"
Coffee cup? Maybe... if it were given to me for free. Tie or tee shirt? No way.
Well, I was on the right track...
So I'll take... half right? :-D
I use Zazzle myself, actually. :-)

They are great services...
Services like Zazzle and Cafepress are very nice in my opinion. In fact, there are stories of people making serious money from them (thinking... the guy who raked in all the bucks from Cafepress selling the anti-Bush items).
It really depends on what you are looking for, though. A friend who made a lot of money off online novelty sales told me if you have a really hot item, you're better off to find a local company to produce the item. Random and promotional stuff seems to be a good fit for Cafepress and Zazzle, though.
