Does Prokofy Neva Have Hookups at Linden Lab?
Shaun Altman posted an interesting piece on Prokofy Neva that I'm approaching cautiously - I've been digging up details of what he wrote, and I am waiting to hear from the owner of the land that now belongs to Governor Linden. A Professor at Woodbury University, from what I understand.
Shaun claims that Prokofy Neva claimed responsibility for the person losing their land. And, he rightly points out that Prokofy Neva coined the term 'FIC' for people with the sort of relationship that she allegedly claimed to have in this scenario. Do I believe Shaun? Yes. But all is open to speculation at this point.
Prokofy Neva has a Nobody Fugazi fetish and has enjoyed attacking and attempting to misrepresent me and other people I know. And she has tried on repeated occasions to provoke me into things that I know would be grounds for complaint to Linden Lab, so I simply ignore her and stay away from her - and sites that lend her credibility in her unfounded personal attacks on people. From what I have seen, if you don't agree with Prokofy Neva, you can expect that she will rant to anyone who will listen without looking at both sides. But that is just my opinion. That she has lasted so long in Second Life has always amazed me, and perhaps this allegation has merit. I've seen companies pay people to be their public enemy number one before - and Linden Lab and Prokofy Neva have a longstanding history of this enmity.
Is she banned from areas I control on the Internet? You bet. Why? Freedom of Speech does not mean using one's Freedom of Speech to negatively impact the Freedom of Speech of others. And anyone who tries to make themselves credible by tearing down others does seem a very desperate troll indeed. I am in good company. Many people don't allow her rambling, hate filled commentary. I haven't written about her in a year, whereas she loves using my name in misrepresentative ways.
But for the topic at hand - if she claimed that she had something to do with someone having their land taken from them and banned, even by innuendo, she's claiming the power that she accuses others of having. If she didn't say that, then Shaun Altman is a liar - as are a few other people I have communicated with. And if she said it and actually had something to do with it, well, the latter would explain why Prokofy Neva has lead such a charmed Second Life.
But enough speculation. After I speak with the Professor, I'll post more.
And, you'll note, I had the good taste to be open about my own bias - whereas Prokofy Neva simply colors people with her basic Crayola set... and can't seem to stay in the lines.

Do I think the lindens are
Do I think the lindens are well aware of who Prok is? Well yea. She is a regular at meetings, she goes to the SLCC each year, and she's one of the most vocal SL activists out there. Do I think she gets special treatment? No. Not any more than the next guy. I'm sure LL had reasons that they will never let us in on.

In all fairness, here's Prok's post on the matter.
I always have a hard time believing her quotations, so I take them with a grain of salt (and reading her makes me feel like I drank tequila all night. Blech.)
So that's the flip side of it.
Considering that her post wasn't up when I posted this (I checked), and considering that she commented that she had to read Shaun Altman's post still (and added him to the 'list of griefers'), well - it should be interesting.
For myself? I don't know. Events made me ask the question, and I'm used to reading Prok write a bunch of nonsense about me - so I don't trust a single word out of her keyboard.
Still waiting to hear from the person who got banned. That will be the tipping point for me, either way.

In my more cynical moments, especially when Prok used to annoy me at office hours (and I was as much to blame because I'd bite), I wondered whether Prok was a Linden plant, there to divert attention. However having saw more of Prok and been to more meetings, I simply don't buy that anymore, even when I'm overly cynical.
Prok has complained long and hard about Woodbury students, so if she does have this sort of power, it has been slow in coming but there has recently been a lot of talk about governance, rules, zones and policing on mainland and if this is the new regime, well a little announcement would have been nice.

yes it wasnt something that is random, Prokofy has been against them for a long time. It has been the subject of too many of his articles and complaints. As much as Linden has flaws they wont just ban on impulse because Prokofy wants them to do so. They have to see enough reason to do it. I have to say that the Woodbury group does acts like and appear to be griefers to me.
If it was someone else that got kicked i would be asking why.
It takes a lot to get perma banned by LL, you have to cross the line so many times.
Yeah, I'm beginning to lean toward Prok on this one.
I got contact information for the person who was banned, and have tried contacting them... but nothing so far.
Still, Prokofy Neva's antics and attitude probably went a long way in this.
But even then, here's my thinking: If you have a pissy neighbor(Prok), why not just find somewhere else to call home? No way in hell I'd purchase land near her. So that doesn't make sense to me - if this was such a longstanding feud...

I'm somewhere in the middle on this so far.
I'm obviously biased, since Prokofy Neva has gone out of her way to drag my name into things and misrepresent me. Charging and making accusations (like she does) is simply not my style, though, so I'm waiting to find out more.
I wouldn't put it past Linden Lab to have a plant like this - I'm not saying that Prokofy Neva is one, but I will say that those of us who have moderated discussion boards know the value of having the ability to control trolls by being the biggest one. Its an old game, and one that would work well be it Prokofy Neva or not.
It is sort of odd how this came about. In my mind, Prokofy Neva made the University more interesting to me because I know that all of what she writes about me is tripe - so I wouldn't put it past her to smear a University in the same way. To have someone say that she said something along those lines is intriguing. My first thought was that she probably goaded them into breaking the ToS - she does seem to try to get on someone's nerves and get them to attack her, then screams that she is being abused (a bit old for a spoiled brat, isn't she?). That, I think, makes sense. That is probably the simplest explanation. That doesn't make it right, though.
The insinuation in her comment, as Shaun claimed, would seem to indicate that she wants to be recognized for having the same authority that the FIC have.
And as for the zoning - well, talk is cheap. What Prok does is show up at every Linden hour she can show up to, apparently, and make noise about one thing or another - a noteworthy achievement given her time zone disparity. Whether what she does at those office hours is productive or not, I do not know - she's actually one of the reasons I wouldn't go. If I have to shout to be heard, I go somewhere else to talk. And since I consider Linden office hours to be talking to walls, well... shouting at walls is not something I am willing to do unless I have the appropriate horn. :-)

You don't have to posit Prok as a "Linden plant" to wonder whether she can really, authentically, work herself into her special kind of frenzy -- much of the kind that used to 'cause' John Belushi to pitch himself out of his chair on Saturday Night Live. It's not hard to imagine someone feigning those kinds of hysterics just to stir things up and amuse herself. Real griefers and trolls do it all the time. However, it's far more likely that she's just nekulturny. (See how easy it is to insert gratuitous Russian cant?)
That said, Linden Lab is a multi-million-dollar company bankrolled by very wealthy, high-profile people -- and even so, clearly has nowhere near enough staff to babysit the charges they've already taken on. It seems very unlikely that the management would want to have to justify to their investors -- or the boss, for that matter -- the kind of shenanigans you're suggesting.
Some things the investors don't have to know about.

As for what I think - its speculation, and I've openly stated that. But this instance, which I followed up again, clearly shows her prim overlapping her neighbor's area - even after all that hijinx.
Anyway, I've wasted enough time on that troll today. Her 2 minutes are up.

there are probably all kinds of Linden plants to go onto other blogs etc spying on what people talk about LL. None of us regular users of SL know how many ALTs workers at LL has....
hell LL could be running bots at most high paying camping sites. We can't prove they arent.. What about Anshe Chang bet she is on LL payroll too.. wonder if her banking thing from Entropia Universe to SL is still allowed on SL.,.. Banks arent allowed but I bet anything she will be allowed to have banks on SL even though she is a financial company in RL....
LL states people are only allowed certain number of a avatars. Wonder how many she has registered...
There is always "SPECIAL PEOPLE" in any thing in life. They are allowed to break rules do illegal things yet nothing ever happens to them. Guess you call them "INSIDERS" people who are working for "THE COMPANY"
Entropia Universe has the special person NEVERDIE, just to name one.
In "VIRTUAL WORLDS" certain people get to much power & it makes it too unfair. Thats why VIRTUAL WORLDS fail & you always see new ones starting up. There should be some kind of LIMIT to how many sims a person can own. LL puts limits on everything else.
