As posted by Marty Linden on Thursday, the case of Bragg v. Linden Lab and Philip Rosedale is resolved. Of course, I've been spending some time away from the keyboard and am at least 24 hours behind on this - but in being 24 hours behind, I note that not much has been said about it. Even Virtually Blind has not written much of it, perhaps because there is not room for speculation. As far as the involved parties are concerned, it is over with and done with no one to speak of it.
What this says is that Linden Lab did not have a position of strength - one never settles when one is in a position of strength. It also says that Bragg's case probably hit a few key nerve centers which would take Linden Lab down a slippery slope - for example, the land ownership metaphor which is still being used in marketing-speak related to Second Life.
Personally, I'm somewhat disappointed that this didn't play out. It is apparent that there are some serious questions raised within the case itself which will haunt virtual worlds for some time to come - specifically Second Life.
Then again - I predicted the settlement. Linden Lab had to settle.

Land Ownership
If Philip will go on Channel 4 news in the UK and when asked whether people actually own land, reply "Absolutely", they're not really being consistent in picking and choosing what ownership means.
I'd have liked to have seen this case played out too, lots of questions still to be answered.

Bragg -vs- Linden
For Once i Agree with Big dogg,Braggs privacy was not considered when this went public and i agree that Bragg should take this issue Right back to the court room, he will have people messaging non-stop asking every question that hits them about this incident.
Well...
It is free PR for Bragg. The name will be right up there with a lot of other people... and that has some value for Bragg, I suppose.
Of course, that value can easily be abused. We see that done, too, with many on the famous/notorious side of Second Life.

hmnmm
Yea free PR but on TV when you see Celebrity PR do they give their name & phone number or email address. If they show a Celebrity court document they black out their address & phone number on it so people can't see it.
Maybe LL added something in their new TOS give P. Linden some PR. Anyone have his home phone number to post here or his cell number.... ;P

The one thing I don't get is
The one thing I don't get is why did Linden Lab, in their official statement, to the entire SL community, purposely mention Bragg's avatar name? It kind of irked me. Why would they do that? Does LL want everyone to hound him?
If I was Bragg...
I take LL right back into court for privacy rights. They had no reason to mention the avie name. Cause now this guy is gonna keep getting questioned to what happened..
