Philip Linden Office Hour Meeting September 10th 2007

It hurts my eyes trying to

It hurts my eyes trying to follow chat logs and it's so hard to pick out what Philip actually answered. At least he's taken the time to talk to the residents and for that he deserves respect.

Prok as usual makes some good points coupled with wild political rantings. I wish she'd calm down at times, she can be very constructive when she's focussed.

Philip's Avatar still reminds me of one of the characters out of the film Sleepers mind you.

Ciaran

I had a lot of real life

I had a lot of real life stuff to get done today, so filtering the junk would have resulted in this not being posted today, so I just went ahead and posted. Otherwise, I'd of loved to filter it and clean it up a bit.

Oh I don't expect people to

Oh I don't expect people to clean up and filter chat logs, I'd already read the log at Prok's blog. I can copy and paste and filter them myself it was just a general statement about chat logs. I didn't mean to imply that it was poorly presented or that you should spend time cleaning it up.

Ciaran.

That is a problem with chat logs...

I think I'll try to find a way to address that somehow. The GPL Chatlogger does color code by author, but the original intent of the chatlogger was to deal with the disclosure aspect of Second Life (which some of us take more seriously than [w:Linden Lab]).

Posting from one's history does require a lot of pesky cleanup in this regard... I think that would be a reasonable project for 'post processing'.

Yes, Philip does deserve some respect for talking to residents as he does. I don't sweat Prok anymore, the signal to noise ratio is too low for me - but some of her points gained credence through people there.

And yeah, Philips avatar is kind of creepy - but it is iconic. That is probably why it hasn't changed... though we should point him at a few freebie places so that he's on par with the newbies out there. :-)

interesting meeting.

Good to see Baba's back, too. Funny as usual.

For the self replicating objects... I'll have to test whether vehicles can enter no-entry parcels again. Since they are physics enabled, that would be the test... Back about 6 months-1 year ago, people were losing no-copy vehicles that way.

And, as I recall, the object return was upped because autoreturn on fast really kills a sim under attack. It has to autoreturn stuff every minute, and with self replicating objects that causes problems.

As far as griefing - well, I'd love to know why they pick on Prok and seem to leave other people alone. Its targetted. In other words, they'll keep doing whatever they can as long as Prok remains a target. Prok would have to deal with that issue on Proks own. However - COMMA - Prok is on mainland - and having Estate management tools if one owns an entire sim on mainland *might* be of use to Prok. (See? I don't hate Prok, I just don't like Prok). Griefing attacks as Prok describes on Estates are pretty rare from what I have heard.

Now - the anonymizer IP ranges I kind of like. I don't think anyone would use an anonymizer unless they were up to no good - the question was asked about different countries, etc... but that is pretty weak, actually. The worst country about that sort of thing is [w:China], and China doesn't seem to have a problem (yet?). That gets into politics, but I'll take the [w:ICANN] route - block 'em.
