In lieu of a functional WSE and with a lack of transparency into the problems, the rumor mill is again working overtime. Someone, who requested to be unnamed, sent me the following transcript - emphasis mine. Bear in mind that I am not saying that this is authentic - I am unclear how authentic it is, but since it is making the rounds within Second Life I am posting it:

[4:23] Redux Dengaku: i mean the fact is that the SL system itself is secure, so any financial loss is the result of trusting the wrong perosn or clicking the wrong button

[4:24] Redux Dengaku: bob released something a few months ago that had some weak code, and it got hit for 200k
[4:24] Redux Dengaku: the lindens didn't help him resolve it because the problem was that the code wasn't tested

While the context of this conversation - if it is a true recording - is open to interpretation, it would appear that Redux was helping test the ATMs - and perhaps was given modify rights to do the things stated in the transcript. I don't know. But the conversation itself hints at a few things. For one, WSE didn't seem to know how they got hit (allegedly, Thurston Hallard had the same rights Redux apparently had).

Also, there is the part where 'a few companies will be delisted'. That could point to insider trading very easily. Aside from the MDS Debacle, what other companies?

'Bringing the families closer together' has some rather interesting connotations which support a few cabal theories out there.

The comments about Linden Lab helping out with the investigation into the 3.2 million Linden dollars is very interesting. One piece of gossip going around is that LukeConnell Vandeverre is a personal friend of Zee Linden, but that is difficult to say what context that started in. Maybe they are on each other's friends lists alone, maybe they are real pals. Maybe Linden Lab is looking into the problem because they may be starting their own stock exchange. That they are helping to investigate is certainly a point of interest, and that point has been easily lost in all of the talk. The question remains: Why is Linden Lab helping WSE when they have not helped in other instances?

Very curious.

The transcript also hints that WSE was not involved directly in the fraud, which has been another rumor. But then if the transcript is real, could it have been staged? Why yes, of course it could have been.

Do I believe the transcript is real? I most certainly do. Do I understand it may be explained, that it may be out of context somehow? Yes, I understand that.

But I also understand that the cloak and dagger has to stop somewhere. This isn't 'virtual money' in any way. It's real money. The folks running things know that.

So here's the gossip and the transcript out in the open. If someone has facts to add, or further speculation - here it is. Bring it.

What we have here.... is a failure... to communicate....

Update: Apparently this transcript has made it into the hands of authorities higher than Linden Lab. Dunno what that means.
