WSE Hacked.
A few short days ago, it had come to the attention of LukeConnell that the WSE had been hacked and lost over 3.2mil/L.
I come into this story, well, because it was the Chairman of Board @ MDS who has allegedly hacked the WSE.
On Saturday I received an e-mail from Patsy Linden stating that my account was placed on Hold due to an Administrative Review.
This is likely the cause of the transactions between myself and Thurston. Which I'm not the least bit concerned about, but what bothers me is that Linden Lab is failing to contact me regarding any information about the situation that I have to offer.
I don't have a lot to say here about the situation just yet, but I am clearing the calendar to take interviews.

WSE Hacked
As with all financial institutions there will be those who try and for some succeed in cheating the system. For this it is ultimately important that the majority of the investment community be covered thru stringent controls and constant ever improved safeguards. However the problem will always exist that someone will try to continue to defraud the system.
I would say that in light of this occurrence there needs to be significant changes in the overall regulation and administration of the WSE. For the general user a few hundred linden loss is nothing but where ever a single $, be it linden or what ever currency, is removed thru unethical means then we are all affected.
Loss of trust and confidence in WSE will result in the loss of opportunity for many who might otherwise go on to become a significant boon to the SL world.
Under no circumstance should the revelation of wrongdoing be considered anything but public security and investor welfare…..
Linden created a virtual world that was for the most part a great game. The one thing that has happened is that this is no longer a game to many but a real world, with real people, with real interests and investments. In not safeguarding these people Linden (regardless of the statements about not accepting responsibility) must accept the moral responsibility to protect the users.
Lets not panic but work toward a process that we can all be confident will protect us all.

I like what you're saying here, but what you are saying will require an external mechanism for handling issues - which is exactly what the concept of Courts is about. As it is, the AR system could be likened to a Kangaroo Court if one wanted to - there is a complete lack of transparency into it.
I would think that people should have a right to face their accusers. Linden Lab mechanisms do not permit this. I would also think that people should have a right to defend themselves. Linden Lab mechanisms do not permit this.
So I must ask - what ideas do you have to make the system better?

Your absolutly right. A cout system is what the real world has set up in order to see that everyone's interests are protected. It would be a shame to have to have tha here but obviously this looks like where things will have to go, dont you think. Some ideas; Well right now if linden banns you hey guess what open a new account with a different username, password and email address. Big deal. There has to be some genieus who can find a fool proof way to record a users identity. Credit card or drivers liscence or something. Get rid of the people who would turn this world corrupt. I would also say that an investigation group needs to be formed independant of linden to make the final decision to discipline or eject a user, based on information gathered from all available sources. With Facts from Linden and from each party.
All of this needs to become public knowledge and the entire circumstances, facts and results need to be published. In the event of a potential expulsion all facts need to be thoroughly reviewed and the accused should have the opportunity to be heard by a review board.
Hey, looks like real life doesn't it. Where will this end. I dont know and I for one dont have all the answers but I sure know that we need to find some.
Who am I. I am a member of the board of MDS and I know that the information that everyone is seeking will come out soon enough. I found out about this a while back and could have sold all my shares to unsuspecting investors but I refuse to act in an unethical manner. I have retained my shares and I will be the last one to receive any compensation as Mystik has indicated in the WSE announcement. I know Mystik and I fully stand behind this individual as an honest and moral individual. People say that Mystik got caught, well those people have no information to base their statements on and in due course should offer an appology (assuming they are ethical).
Lets indeed see where this takes us because as it stands I have a significant dollar invested in WSE and I stand to loose those dollars.

Any transactions coming into my account that are considered fraud, that are sent from another individual, what do they normally do? They take those funds and give them to the appropriate owner.

I'm not taking a side in this, but when I checked the WSE website I was unsurprised that I saw nothing on it.
WSE has been less than transparent, and they did cover up the Montana Poker Room issue as well. WSE hides Anshe Chung behind 'Third Party' as an investor, too.
I would like to hear both sides. As of yet, I have heard neither.
