New Continent, No Fixes

Yup, they're dragging out a new continent in Second Life... without fixing any of the issues which making mainland worth spending money on.

The risk of unscrupulous landbot owners is bad enough - costing individuals sometimes thousands of dollars as the land sale system is questioned openly by people who claim to have:

  • Set a land price and have it sell for another price.
  • Have pieces of land be sold multiple times with no transfer of ownership.
  • Crash during setting a price for some land and have a large portion of land sell when the transaction was never completed on the client side.
  • Finding the details of land adjacent to the parcel one is looking at instead of the one you right clicked on.

Meanwhile, the bait and switch maneuver continues (switching land prices through scripting so it appears to be at a low price but ends up being overpriced during the purchase process).

And still, 16m 2 plot advertisers continue to extort views.

But hey, if you keep selling land, people will buy it. Why? Because it is similar to a Ponzi Scheme.

While fair traders out there (such as members of the Honorable Land Dealer Association) make an honest dollar by buying and holding land - and paying tier on it until it sells - others sell small plots so that others can place ugly advertisements there and jack the price up - giving a high return for a low investment, with very little impact on tier. Linden Lab permits this with the Terms of Service, and while some have gone to great expense to reclaim 'ad fields', Linden Lab sits happily and collects money from everyone.

No, I'll stick with estates, thank you very much. These issues are the worst sort of advertising that Linden Lab could have. Perhaps that is why the main stream media ignores it instead of addressing it such that it is fixed. I guess we need the equivalent of a German Pedophile with mainland for Linden Lab to realize the community finds lack of action related to mainland to be broadly offensive

Jack Linden...

continues to disregard some of the concerns outlined here and in other comments to the entry. Color me unsurprised.

Mainland Ownership part of the newbie learning curve

I'll never own mainland again... for every reason you mention here plus the terrible consistent lag.
