Well, Finally Out - Sculptie Genitalia
Checking out SLExchange, I came across the first sculpted prim penis that I know of. No, I wasn't looking for one. I was checking out the latest stuff on SLExchange.
I'm surprised something like that wasn't in the Linden Lab contest, actually, because that would save a lot of trouble for newbies if it were already in their inventory.
Then they would just have to fly around with it hanging out.
Now that the genitalia are out, it's over. Sculpties are now old news. Everyone can wait to see how they look in Windlight next, I guess...

Greatest Sculptie Piece Ever Rezzed
If you want to see the greatest sculptie ever rezzed...come to the Greenies Home sim on 02 August at 1700 SLT. A new piece by the artist Lightwaves will blow your mind!
From what I saw, sculpted
From what I saw, sculpted genitalia had to be the most frequently occurring item in the beta grid the day after sculpties were possible there. I saw a scripted, animated... 'unit' the first hour after sculpties went live on agni.
It *is* surprising that they didn't hit SLex sooner, though.
That's interesting.
You're the first person I've heard mention that... I had a suspicion that it would be so, but I don't have the time to play in Beta.
Once again Nobody has the wrong end of the stick
After some of the amazing creations that came out of and in the wake of the building contest, is this really the best thing you can come up with to write on the topic of sculpties?
You've been faintly denigrating of sculpties from the first, as seen in your post Sculpties did not kill the prim torture star.
I'm not a builder, or a prim torturer, but I know a fair bit about databases and networking. And it is those areas that I see sculpties greatest potential. That potential has barely begun to be realized, so you can't fairly pronounce sculpties "old news" unless you are only concerned with the most puerile examples of their use.
Sculpties are a potentially a very good thing that I personally hope will contribute to improving SL's stability. Once sculpted prims are in wider use they will decrease the load produced by complicated mulit-prim constructions of organic objects. Think about that in the wake of the problems with the assets server.
The bar for the quality of builds in SL has already been raised in the wake of the sculpties build contests, and this too, is a good thing.
Sweetie...
I really haven't seen anything I really like from the sculptie stuff yet and I don't think that it will help with much more than niche stuff. Most stuff is done with textures. I did get some pillow sculpties from slexchange which are ok but I don't see them as a big deal. I don't know about all the networking and computer stuff but I do know that sculpties aren't flexi and can't be tortured. :-(
Yup, it's the best I could come up with at the time.
Frankly, I don't see much of a use for them except for small detail work. If you honestly think that sculpties are going to help with server and network load - as someone who has been doing stuff for about 20 years - I think you should stop smoking that stuff before you get caught. It is probably illegal where you live.
The first rule of Prim: Every prim will be used. Fact of SecondLife.
If for some reason you end up being right about there being less of a load - ok, fine, I'll say something to that effect. But I think you're way off base with that.
Now after all those almost-won-a-t-shirt-and-paid-their-own-taxes-if-they-got-one sculpties - seriously, they are pretty impractical. At least this example has a 'use', albeit one which the mainstream press won't pick up on. And THAT, of course, is the point.
Do I think sculpties are a waste of time? Pretty much, yup. I don't see how investing hours in a sculptie is productive. Sorry. Maybe when you get Windlight and voice, you can talk to other people who think sculpties are cool... but I'm sorry. I don't. They are somewhat practical in some scenarios. That's all.
Incidentally, why don't you sign your name at the least?
