The entire Open Sim choice by LL and my short lived ban made me feel a little burnt out with Second Life. In the three years I have been here, I have never had such a bitter taste in my mouth for the way they have handled things. The last few weeks I have been slowly removing open spaces from the grid. Now I could convert some back into full estates, but by the time I get them all cleared, wait for lord knows how long for them to convert it, and getting charged tier while I wait, and then trying to get them rented out again in an already slow rental market, it's just not worth it for me personally. So with all of that and a little push from my real life friends who play, I decided to give World of Warcraft a real try.
I had tried for a day a year or so ago but didn't really know what I was doing so I lost interest quickly. This time I had the help of a lot of great friends for RL and SL so things have been different. I'm really enjoying running quests with my friends, and even started a 2nd character shortly after I had made my first so that I could play with my sister and some other RL friends. WoW is very different from Second Life, but I have to admit I am really enjoying "playing" a game. I haven't done that since before I found SL. I'm about a week and a half into it now and think I am officially hooked.
I haven't left Second Life. I still log on a few times a day to anwer questions, help renters, and pick up land set to me. And I still love Second Life, I'm just a little upset with how it's being run right now so it's rather nice to be taking a break and learning a new game that I can play with friends and family.

Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
I play both SL and WoW, and I like them both alot, but they aren't really competing for my time; for me they're completely different. I play WoW when I want nice simple tasks to do, well-defined goals, no drama (to speak of), no long discussions (just "okay, sap the ogre when I say Go"). I go into SL (I don't think of it as "playing") when I want to build stuff, see friends, dance, listen to music, and all that (and when I'm feeling social enough to be bombarded by IMs from the instant I log in haha; I really need to make a friendless alt for exploring).
Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
They are totally different. I had friends in my guild say that WoW is so much better then SL, and I was thinking the same thing. That they are way to different to be compared. WoW works out better for my sister because she would log onto SL and not know what to do and get bored. WoW gives her a goal to work on. I like them both. SL has a lot more freedom and possibility, and has made my real life much better because of the friends I have met, many becoming real life friends, and it has opened a lot of doors for me and improved my self esteem. It also has a lot of stress involved. WoW is fun for me because it's a real "game". I like having quests and killing monsters, plus it's a game I am able to play with my sister and a great group of friends. Both have there plus and minus sides, but they are in no way compairable.
SCAM
Hello Sara,
First off, You do come and check your ims for land etc.. but what about the shareholders and the treamndous amount of money you raised from shareholders in WSE?
We all know that WSE wont open, so do you, How about moving to another exchange or simply refunding your shareholders?
Pff, you used to talk a lot more when you had to raise that money but what about paying it back?
Re: SCAM
If you are invested in me, and unhappy please contact me in world to discuss what I can do with you and your particular shares to make you happy. I'm more than willing to work with people, always have been, but I have no interest in trolls who leave anonymous comments in blogs that are no way related. But like I said, I am more than willing to work with people. If you are actually invested in me somehow, just drop me a message in world.

by Anonymus-Not:
you know why you are enjoying playing a game? Because SL seriously lack content.
And by content I mean real content, not dead places like those of some celebrated good-for-nothing "artists" create to have clueless people go there and say 'wow'.
I mean real playable games that unfortunately are very hard to realize since LL has always been focused on showing off with these 'wow' places and now with all the company stuffs.
If SL don't move into the direction to provide a more 'playable' territorry -- that is, one with much less lag -- it will slowly die; for company use it is just unusable it is even more unusable than MS's SharePoint even though if something is unusable than SPS/MOSS is.
I wonder how you would pay your bills from playing wow tho.
Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
HAHAHAHA, last week I started playing WoW, its fun, I've spent less time in SL, and I am happier in SL now.
Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
Heh. I've been in PlaneShift myself - something I'll be writing about sometime this week.
WoW sounds cool, but you know... it's just a little too cool for me.
As far as Second Life... well, the question becomes whether Second Life will get a... second life... and before the doomsayers and the 'I told ya so' folk come running out, the truth is that Second Life has to run it's natural course, just like everything else.
Some will say that they didn't add features fast enough, or that they added the wrong features, or that their policy and customer service has been decidedly against the interest of the users. But in the end... ya know... it's a mix of all of those things and none of them.
Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
I have to agree with Sarah. After 2+ years in Second Life I have started spending most of my online time (about 90% of it actually) in WoW. After all the bickering here, there is something very satisfying about being about to shoot (methaphorically or course) the things that bug you without worrying about a TOS violation.
I am playing the game online with family members across the country who could just never got into SL. I am not giving up my SL account, but I don't miss the drama.
Maybe the shiny will wear off there too at some point, however for now I find it much more interesting.

Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
been trying out EVE online lately, not really because I'm giving up on
SL but because it's such a slow game you can play it while logged into
SL at the same time and not miss too much.
I'd suggest giving it a try there's some cool trading stuff you can do
and I think it could be fun to put some programming time into working
out optimal trading routes and so on. Plus it seems like the sort of game you can really do well in just playing solo which suits my style. The business aspects of EVE remind me a lot of SL except, sadly, the in game currency isn't worth any real money so there's not quite so much drive to optimise strategies.
Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
I think wow is a lot easier and more fun if you have someone to kind of show you the ropes. I'm not very deep in, but if you ever give it another try I can at least help with what I've learned so far.
Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
I thought you could make money on Eve, selling isk and other such stuff or do you only get game time in return for it, or worse is it like WoW gold selling and not allowed but still has a thriving market?
One of the lad's at work is Eve mad, he keeps offering me a free trial code.
Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
You can buy game time for isk or USD and you can sell game time for isk but you can't sell game time for USD. So you can save yourself the cost of playing the game by being good at making money but you can't legally take money out of the game as far as I know.

Sarah you should have acted the same way about WSE. Can't believe you stayed there while they scammed so many sl users, but it didnt affect you.

Re: Sorry Second Life, but I'm seeing other games.
WoW is fun but it gets more time consuming as you go up the levels. If you're on the alliance side The Deadmines are bloody awesome.
I'd sure love my Warlock to hit certain people at LL with a curse of agony at this moment in time.
It's healthy to have something else to do and you're not going anywhere, you can't, freebie paradise is awesome for advertising!

Just a quick reply to say your blog title really cracks me up. Hilarious! :)))

In other words Sarah your basically letting us know that your trying to get away from taking your shareholders. It's alright though we all get ourself in something that is too much big for us to handle at times and this is a apparent example of it.
