I joined Google lively only hours after it opened. There was a lot of hype about it's release and even people suggesting that this might be the one to compete with Second Life. I even blogged about it that same day. I wasn't super impressed with it at the time. It just wasn't my thing. It felt more like IMVU only a lot less cool. Well The Official Google Blog has announced that it will close at the end of this year only 5 months after it opened stating that it was a risk that didn't pay off. In there words...
Google has always been supportive of this kind of experimentation
because we believe it's the best way to create groundbreaking products
that make a difference to people's lives. But we've also always
accepted that when you take these kinds of risks not every bet is going
to pay off.
I never logged in after my 2nd or 3rd day there so can't say I'll be missing this one.

Lively being a pile of pants really didn't help its cause. It was nothing more than a glorified chat client.
Now google mail goggles, that's something I can appreciate! I seriously need to set that up.
