Hey don't say I'm not topical! Tonight's eagerly awaited expanison pack in the openspace saga "Wrath of the Land King" produced very little in the way of constructive discussion but I was impressed as Jack sat on his couch fielding questions.
When I arrived there were two level 70 guards in the shape and form of Scout and Guy Linden, but they left early on after Jack probably contacted them on teamspeak to say he could take this crowd of noobs as there were too many low level characters in attendance. This is the problem with pickup groups, you're never quite sure if you'll be well enough equipped for the challenge. I mean we had a few level 70's like Bart Heart, Yohan Pintens and Talarus Luan the dragon but there weren't quite enough and two of those three weren't that bothered about the fight!
Jack fondly remembered the thread from 2006 where he ok'd rentals on voids. The rest of us reached for our weapons but nobody managed to crit Jack for any bonus points, despite my attempts to throw a few curses of agony at him Jack was too powerful for our group and the raid was fended off.
There were calls for refunds - Not bloody likely.
There were calls for tier to be frozen at USD$95 - Not bloody likely.
There were questions about what we're paying the increased fee for - Not at all sure. The price is right apparently, "An Openspace owner, come on down, your prize is a more expensive Openspace" - Audience goes wild.
Jack tried to use mind persuasion techniques to talk about the clean up of mainland and removal of adverts but the group were still full of hit points at this stage and repelled his attack to keep the topic on focus.
Jack actually levelled up about ten minutes from the end of the office hour to ensure there was no way we were going to send him into retreat. A few casualties had fell by the wayside by this point and depsite handing out healing potions it soon became apparent that progress was not going to be made.
If only the noob M had been in the chair we might have had a fighting chance.
However we shouldn't be disheartened and our guild has eight months to grow stronger to fight of the evil menace that plagues Second Life. This blight on the land can be defeated ...oh come on, yes it can! We'll have a few level 80's come spring, just you wait and see!

Re: Wrath of the Land King
The things I have to say on the matter were few, because they don't directly affect me. I would rather let those whom they do affect most speak on the matter, if nothing more than as a matter of courtesy.
1) I don't own any OS sims.
2) I work for the Isle of Wyrms, we had nine OS sims, plus two more for tenants, owned by Guardians at the Isle, and though we don't like the situation any more than anyone else there at JLOH, we have chosen to adapt to the situation.
3) LL screwed up the handling of it, due to inexperience and incompetence of the staff.
4) LL screwed up again by not admitting they mishandled it, and not trying to handle it better.
5) It came as no surprise how badly it was handled, given Jack's history with the adfarmer/extortionist issue. I bet good RL money that he was shocked at the level of backlash over it.
6) I already knew that they had made their "final offer", simply by the way it was handled. A similar situation occurred when Estates went up to US$295/mo. Grandfathering in that case was more palatable to them than this time around, but the overall "up in arms" response was very familiar.
7) There's talk of suing, class actions, calling the California Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs, as well as getting the UK Trading Standards Office on the case. If people think they have a case, or a legitimate complaint, I ENCOURAGE them to do so. Don't just talk about it; DO it. There's an awful lot of finger-waving and threatening to seek legal redress, and it is obvious what the goal is.. to apply pressure to LL to acquiesce to everyone's demands that they leave OS sims alone. The simple fact of the matter is that they have already explored potential legal liability over it, and people should be making those calls to their lawyers and solicitors, because the threats are not going to sway anyone. Personally, I don't think many of the OS sim owners have a leg to stand on, legally, but if they do, and are willing to pursue it, I wish them the best of luck. LL needs to apologize for their screwups and, failing to do it on their own volition, they probably should be forced to do so.
I have NEVER EVER advocated OS sims being used for anything other than what LL said they were for. I warned people over and over that the performance sucked, and that building malls, event venues, home rentals, etc was not "intended use". I was just as shocked as anyone when they doubled the prims, built their own venues on OS sims (and, no, I don't buy the bullshit line about them "always being full sims, with an OS prim limit"), and otherwise encouraged the mass sale of them. I pay US$125/mo as it is on mainland. Don't you think I would rather have my own sim for my store and mall, and whatever the hell else I want to do? Sure! However, I *KNOW* what they can and can't be used for, technically, realistically, and policy-wise, regardless of their stupid double-talk and "do as I say, not as I do" pathology.
It was simply too good a deal to be true, and it wasn't. I sympathize with people who bought into them in a big way, but despite all the BS and double-speak, people should have been wary of the deal. For those who were using them as a critical part of their business, I think they failed Risk Analysis 101. Hopefully, they will pass this time.
I wish people would have had the same level of passion in helping us get rid of the mainland Blight, instead of running away from mainland to private OS sims, complaining how shitty the mainland was; maybe it would have ceased being so shitty a lot sooner.
Wrath of the Land King
Just when I thought I had heard it all from LL they come up with another stupid comment.
Now I don't call concierges or even contact them on live chat that ofter4 times a year. Well when a sim I own was down for about a hour I thought maybe Ill call and see what is up? Here is how the Live Chat went:
Tp Floor Manager: Hello Bart_Heart, what can I help you with?
Bart_Heart: Can you check on the sim "Spontaneous Heights" its been down fo over 30 minutes
Tp Floor Manager: Sorry Bart, the Concierge Team is currently having a meeting. Please come back in about one hour. We are sorry for the inconvenience
Bart_Heart: WHAT THE F*CK
Bart_Heart: Thats the most rediculous thing I have ever heard, and I have heard some dumb things come from the Lindens.
Then I signed off of the live chat. Less then 2 minutes later the sim was back online. If I wasn't in the chat I would f never of believes it. WTF is a "Tp Floor Manager"? Did Linden Lab out source there live chat?
Re: Wrath of the Land King
Never heard of a Tp Floor manager but it looks like someone got the message if the sim was backup in 2 minutes so it was worth the chat.
You shouldn't need to close the whole department for a meeting, you just rotate who misses the meeting unless it was some sort of major emergency.
