Hello? Nobody has added some funky features and who the heck is Lena Eagle when she's all at home? That threw me...where was I? Oh yes the official blog.
The official Linden Lab blog has been a pitiful impersonation of its former self these past couple of months and then like a bus they have two entries coming along in close succession after you've waited ages for one.
Just what on earth is going on in the communication department over there? There's a new viewer out you know, if you've been watching Massively you'll have seen the announcement. If you've been following the official blog you won't know about it at all, Linden Lab released details about the new viewer a few hours after Massively and hid it away on the grid status reports page, here.
How on earth do they justify having information about the new viewer hidden away on the grid status page? Shouldn't that be for letting us know the status of the grid?
It's bad enough that Torley is no longer gracing the blog, now even important information like new viewers is considered not worthy of being passed along to residents via a sensible channel. Who on earth is making these decisions?
I've been told that it will get better, that changes are coming. This is all fine and dandy but do they really need to restrict their communication flow whilst these changes are at the work in progress stage?
I could of course have taken this up with M as he's at the virtual worlds London event, as announced on the blog. Well had I known prior to 12 hours before the event starting when I might have been able to get the time off work and registration prices were a lot cheaper that is. Nah I don't think I'd have bothered even then, it looks like an event for companies by companies, rather than just interested parties but that's really not the point. What sort of communication policy have they got when they make an announcement so late in the day?
There has also been a far more interesting blog entry regarding Magellan Linden's discovery of a lost city and news that auctions will start at L$2000 for a 1024M plot in this new area. How this will shake out I'm not sure but I really hope it's not a repeat of the Bay City auctions. However good, a blog entry with substance and interest finally sees the light of day.
Now how about a few more entries? Starting with fixing the lack of an update regarding the new viewer. Whomever is in charge of this lack of communication policy needs to take a long hard look at themselves.
Oh and bring Torley back where he belongs whilst you're at it!

Re: Just what is going on with the blog?
Heh. Lena Eagle used to run the Y2P store. I've addressed that and have done a few things to the taxonomy (categories) - such as permitting bloggers to now use a comma separated list for tags/categories. This replaces the old (and antiquated) Technorati tags while permitting better tagging of your content.
I'm also considering Nicedit for replacing the text entry areas, since the Nicedit text entry allows for a lot more for We Who Write. Take a peek, let me know what you think...
Re: Just what is going on with the blog?
Nicedit is now in use. More confusing buttons for everyone! (and yes, it still has the color issue...)
Re: Just what is going on with the blog?
Torley seems to have a new home on Showcase no? I miss him on the main blog, but they seem to have found a home for his videos in Showcase.

Um, mind you, the blog announcing the availability was blogged about in the video tutorials blog. Hahaha. Very self-referential don't you think?

also classic LL that they admit to using a unnamed 3rd party for blogging--but can't give a roadmap or committed delivery date. So they pick a vendor that can't deliver anything on time? --rar
Whoops!
Considering I've been saying for ages that he should have his own section on the website I should have noticed that!
Re: Just what is going on with the blog?
Doesn't the annoucement about there being a new client appear in a yellow box on the start-up screen every time you load second life?
True
But it doesn't tell you about the plethora of fixes and new features.
Re: True
Yeah. It's sort of like telling someone that their pacemaker has an upgrade available.
'Huh?'
