Say NO to Bloodlines!

Like a lot of people I have been having a big problem with Bloodline users harassing my customers at Freebie Paradise.  You see bloodlines is a horrible pyramid sceam of a game masked loosely as role play.  The "Vampire" players wear a hud and run around asking people if they can bite them via a hud that try's to animate the person being asked.  They rank by biting as many formerly unbitten people as possible. When a person is bitten it puts there name on a website as one of the players "catches?".   Now I have no problem with people doing whatever they would like in sl.  I do have a problem with people harassing new players in my establishment who are in no way involved in vampire role play. They are there to shop and work on there appearances, not be spammed by this low rate game.  I have a bot that is a group invite bot.  People click a sign, she sends the invite.  A lot of bloodline players don't seem to catch on to the fact that she isn't real, so she has been getting an increasing number of bite requests daily.  I put up a "do not bite my customers" sign.  That didn't work.  I put up a greeter at the door that says "NO BLOODLINES" when they land at the parcel.  That doesn't work.  I got a request as I was remodeling the sim.  Now I'm getting messages from customers telling me who is harassing them.  I shouldn't be hearing a thing about a game that I am not involved with and have no interest, but now it's become a daily part of my Second Life and I'm not happy.

So along comes Yohan Pintens.  I'm not sure why he did it.  Probably a mix of him being sick of me bitching about bloodlines, and his willingness to help the sl community,  But Yohan has created a Buffy Bot!  Buffy sits nicely on your parcel and if anyone sends her a bite request, she instantly ejects and bans them.  She can also just warn them but I prefer the eject option myself.  Buffy is a program that runs outside of sl and works with an alt. And what's even cooler than the fact that he made this amazing Bloodlines defense tool? The fact that he made and is distributing it totally FREE!!!  You can get yours by following this link.

Edit to add..... I received this from a Bloodline co-owner today.  I really do like the fact that they recognize it as a problem and that they are so polite. I still plan to keep Buffy going though because necklace or not, they still attack newbs at my place because they know new players have no idea what bloodlines is.

Greetings Sarah,

Mars Bracken here, co-owner of the Bloodlines vampire system.

I read your brief interveiw online, and my partner and I think the Buffy Bot is totally awesome! It's been quite a trip watching this thing grow, and that's one of the more interesting developments.

However, we do feel badly that people are being inconvenienced by the biting. It's definitely gotten out of hand, with 33,000 non-alt players now, people's ban lists fill up quickly.

In an effort to help, we've made a free "Garlic Necklace" that just needs to be activated once (not worn permanently); once activated it will make it so the avatar will never recieve another bite animation request from a Bloodlines player again, anywhere in SL. If they end up wishing to reactivate at some point and play, that option is provided as well.

We really had no idea it would get like this, and the majority of our players are using the system as it was intended - as a tool for networking vampire RP culture. But as we've learned, as the total number of players grows, so do the "Leeches", "Mosquitos" and other bad apples that abuse the system.

In any case, passing you a copy of the Necklace, as well as a folder with the vendor (Garlic Necklace 1.1 is the label on it). If you feel like passing the Necklaces to anyone who needs one, or setting up the free vendor, feel free.

Sorry again for any inconvenience, and have a good day.

Sincerely,

Mars Bracken

BuffyBot

I have to admit I really am enjoying the BuffyBot group chat.  It gets announced in chat when a vampire is ejected.

I dont play this silly game but,

You have a problem with everything everyone in SL does Sarah. Stop crying and enjoy your second life.

LOL

On the other hand

I have played this game and the unsolicited biting is frowned upon but nothing is really done about it. They issue warnings, they even have signs up telling people not to do it in their own store. Sarah is just handing out info on how to avoid a situation that annoys people.

I don't have a big beef with Bloodlines like others (as I said I dabble in it) but this issue hasn't only been raised by Sarah and even active Bloodlines participants have been known to have "No Bloodlines" signs up in their own premises.

I love my second life!  I

I love my second life!  I get great joy out of playing with land and I love so many people here.  I use my blog to vent when I disagree with something so yea I could see how I might come across like that here.  I do bitch a lot about ad lots, landbots and other things that make SL less enjoyable for other players. But I assure you I'm not alone here, and I should not have to deal with this on a daily basis like I'm forced too.

In case you need opinions other than mine to see what a problem this has become you can refer to theses threads..

Also the fact that so many people are downloading and using this free program is a good indication as well.

Buffy works perfectly!

Buffy Bot is working perfectly....

They are sending bite requests even though when they land in the sim the greeting says "NO BLOODLINES".

Idiots with long teeth and small brains

We are almost to the point of banning on sight. This morons are a plauge. If I am offered I give them one chance, if anyone else complains they are banned and get their "I was Banned at Fermi Sandbox" t-shirt. I haven't heard of buffybot, but it will save me scripting :) My first question is what dumb ass wrote it, and how can we return the favor?

Re: Idiots with long teeth and small brains

I just found out that I was bitten by one of these people and found myself listed on the bloodlines database. To only be able to remove myself by buying some antidote "potion" from them.

Firstly it is an offense to put someone on a public database without providing information and consent. But worse than this is to use it to force people to pay to be removed.

I contacted the creator / support persons. The only answer was a "garlic necklace" that was tested and confirmed not to remove names. Please read yourself below, it's a shame that such things are not properly handled. It's just another ponzi scheme to make money.

"Seems we have an issue here, I did not asked to be put in a database I'm not aware of. Where I come from it is an offense to do this to someone, even worse to do it behind someones back, will and intransparently.

And no, I'm not interested in garlic necklaces including closed scripts. That script does not remove my details. I ask you again to permanently remove my details from your database, website and any other systems. The ultimatum stands.

Thank you.
Boy Lane"

"Hi Boy,
I've passed you a copy of the garlic necklace. If you wear this necklace and acitvate it, it will remove your name from the website, and will protect you from further bites.
Also, before you threaten legal action against someone, you might want to try this: ask nicely first, and then if you're denied, talk to a lawyer about what your options are. If you'd like, we can put your lawyer in touch with our lawyer. Just let me know.
~Lyle"

"Attn: Mars Bracken, Lyle Maeterlinck, Noire Luminos,

Hello,

My name was added to your Bloodlines database. That happend without informing me properly and againsty my consent.

I request you to remove my name, Boy Lane, from that database within 7 days by latest 13 Dec 2008 24:00 SLT. A failure to do so will result in an Abuse Report and further legal actions.

Regards,
Boy Lane"
