First Look at FirstLook Viewer

Firstlook on SentienceWell, the FirstLook Viewer was released for SecondLife.

If you stare at sunsets and sunrises in SecondLife, it's gotten better. It has. But I haven't noticed any performance improvements - in fact, without my texture cache it has been degraded. According to Torley's blog entry on the blog:

...Regarding “lag” concerns that came up earlier, we don’t anticipate there being a significant performance impact, as some of the calculations are actually more optimized than previously...

'Some are more'. OK. Whatever that means.

It really is hard for me to say without my texture cache. And while the sky is full of oohs and ahhs, the novelty wore off for me after a quick shuffle through the Sky Settings (CTRL-Alt-W). This stuff might come in handy for nice pics, but if it is as laggy as I'm experiencing right now with a top of the line PC... I'm not too impressed.

Tateru Nino also shares her perspective. Torley may think that the future's real bright, but sunglasses are easy. Just turn the stuff off if it lags too much.

I'll play with it some more and will mention if anything changes.
