After posting my blog on kewin Monentes a few days ago, I've had several people message me to let me know that this type of thing is the norm for kewin. Several people who have seen him doing the same thing I watched him do the other day. He sets a 16 meter lot as the landing point at the same price as the surrounding land so that people land and mistakenly buy a 16 meter lot at an outragous price assuming they are buying the larger lot. I found out today that he managed to scam Harmen Emms this way about a month ago on a water lot. The thing with waterlots is that even if you have show propery lines on, in the newest sl viwers you can't see the property lines under water unless you actually go under the water. I guess that worked well with kewins scam.
[12:12] Harmen Emms: what the fuck is this
[12:12] kewin Monentes: WHAT?
[12:12] Harmen Emms: are you scamming too
[12:13] Harmen Emms: 3700 for a 16m2
[12:16] Harmen Emms: looks like the work of ROBO...put the tp point of a cheap parcel in the listing n a small parcel that is very high priced
[12:19] Harmen Emms: are you willing to return the money?

[12:20] Harmen Emms: i guess not....well your name will be blacklisted....i hope you will have fun with the few bugs you earned
[12:20] Second Life: User not online - message will be stored and delivered later.
[12:23] kewin Monentes: why?
[12:24] Harmen Emms: why did you set up the tp point of a 560 for sale for 3560 on a 16 m2 parcel?
[12:24] kewin Monentes: i sell 3700 for 16mq
[12:25] Harmen Emms: yeah right
[12:25] kewin Monentes: i sell you buy
[12:25] kewin Monentes: what problem?
[12:26] Harmen Emms: well i did not want that 16m2 parcel....stupid of me not to look, but these are practices that will give you a bad name
[12:26] kewin Monentes: ok
[12:26] kewin Monentes: it s regular, i sell 16mq
[12:26] Harmen Emms: when you are a gentleman and honest businessman you return me the money
[12:26] kewin Monentes: why?
[12:26] kewin Monentes: buy land
[12:27] kewin Monentes: 560mq
[12:27] Harmen Emms: not for 3700 for a 16m2
[12:27] kewin Monentes: 560mq for 5500
[12:27] Harmen Emms: no thanks....i wanted that piece for 3560 as seen in the listings
[12:27] Harmen Emms: which is still opened
[12:28] kewin Monentes: ok
[12:28] Harmen Emms: 3570 was the price
[12:28] kewin Monentes: for me?
[12:30] Harmen Emms: you had the 560 plot for sale for 3570...that land i want, so set it to my name for 200 so you will earn money for that 16m2 plot too
[12:30] kewin Monentes: what?
[12:30] kewin Monentes: want buy???
[12:30] kewin Monentes: price is 5500
[12:31] kewin Monentes: bye
[12:31] kewin Monentes: price is set
[12:32] Harmen Emms: everything what is said here i will record and save and put it on a website, so everybody will know what practices you are doing

Work of robo? Screw u emms!
I sell the plots for the price listed whether u think they are high or not J.O. No scams.

This guy preys on people who don't pay attention which means it's unlikely a public awareness program will be of much benefit. It seems that people don't google SL names until after they have been screwed over. At any rate, I think the lab needs to set a max sell price for 64 meter or less lots (could be based on current running median price of 512 mainland lots). It would really curb this sort of activity. Even an indicator in the buy land window telling you if your paying more or less than a current median price for the size lot you are buying would be useful. But again, that would require a person pay attention to what they are doing.
A few AR's can't hurt either
So next time I log on i will try to find one of these spots, and send one.
Yesterday at Jack's office
Yesterday at Jack's office hours he said they were looking to crack down on scams and specifically mentioned the scam where people cut a 16 from a center lot and cover it with a house so the person doesn't see it when they buy. This scam si just as bad if not worse so I think AR's will help.
A variation of this trick: a
A variation of this trick:
a region is cut up into actually usable plots, but all land descriptions state something like "region-name 65,536sqm 15,000 prims price". The price even seems reasonable for a whole region. When you look at the About Land tab (or read the Buy dialog carefully) you'll see that the actual land for sale is not 65,536sqm, but 512, or 1024, or any other number. And when you calculate the sqm-price based on the actual plotsize it's like you traveled back into 2007.
Turn Lemons Into Warnings
Anyone who got tricked into buying a plot from this jerk should install some kind of a warning device ... maybe some sound-enabled blinky thing with a recorded warning audible to anyone within a reasonable distance.
