4Offsets.com Opens Store in Second Life to Sell Carbon Offsets

Second Life Carbon Offset StoreVia this press release, I came across 4Offsets.com which provides a service for purchasing carbon offsets. They opened a store inworld store to do this at Vio (201,54,27).

You can read more about carbon offsets here, or by visiting the 4Offset.com page on it, or you can visit the inworld store to get information from the notecards available by clicking around.

The general idea is that you, gentle reader, are creating carbon dioxide and you can give people money to help offset it. Think of it as a long term investment in the planet.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about such endeavors. I solar energy a lot myself, so maybe I don't see the value in handing someone money to handle my carbon emissions - I just try to do the best by myself. Still, the majority of people don't feel like messing with wires and voltmeters and thus it makes sense that something like this be in a virtual world. It is a way for non-technical people to do something.

And it isn't expensive. I encourage you to go take a look around the store at Vio (201,54,27).

Of course, you could turn off your computer and go outside for a while. It might be healthier, too. :-)

/me sneaks outside for a while.

SAVE YOUR MONEY

Its a scam. You would do better by planting trees yourself in your own neighborhood then shipping your money off to someone who will chisel away from your donation and call it overhead costs.

Don't me mislead. Save Your Money.

Nice Idea, But Not New

Cool, noble, but I already have mine with www.biggreenswitch.co.uk/secondlife and have done for ages, they are at Gourdneck/19/26/114 and have a way-cool video on YouTube that a lot of folks use as a kinda SL showcase (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vWY74injCI).

BGS are not-for-profit, and have loads of eco freebies to raise green awareness in SL/RL. Also well worth a look, and with backing so you know they're legit...

OS

Yeah, I know.

You've been around a while. I didn't know what to make of it then, as as I mentioned here I don't really know what to make of it now. Still, its something that can help people - so your comment and alternative are welcome.

Sorry for not mentioning you. But you fixed that. Blessed are the blogs... :-)
