Maldives Beats out Swedes for SecondLife Presence

In this poorly titled story (what diplomatic row?!), it is reported that the Maldives have edged out Sweden in getting a SecondLife presence.

From the story:

The Maldives clearly hope that their pioneering embassy might make people pay them a bit more attention. 'The Maldives is a small country, but that does not mean we do not have a valuable contribution to make in international affairs,' said Abdulla Shahid, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
'

The Virtual Embassy offers another channel for us to provide information on the country, to offer our viewpoint on issues of international concern, and to interact with our partners in the international community'

And in the noble tradition of Scandinavian diplomacy, the Swedes aren't getting angry with the Maldivians.
'Good for them. It is great that more countries are realizing the importance of establishing a presence in Second Life,' the Swedish Institute's Susanna Wallgren told Swedish news website The Local.

Malta, the Philippines, and Macedonia all reportedly have embassies currently under construction on Diplomacy Island as well.
