Via Rik Riel: SLURL: http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Justice%20Commons At the launch of the International Justice Center in SL last Thursday, the lead prosecutor of the International Criminal Court asked the following question to the Second Life community: "How do you believe we can use this [Second Life] system to improve understanding of this idea and mobilize people and resources in the world to protect those who have nothing... This could be a very interesting tool. You have ideas how we can use this new tool?" Activists, educators, non-profit organizers and the interested public are invited to a couple of Community Open Forums we are holding at the Global Kids' International Justice Center to discuss how to effectively and strategically use this new tool for public education and action on global human rights concerns. The Community Forums will take place this Wednesday at 8AM and 1PM SLT /PDT in the Amphitheater of the Justice Center (click here to teleport). We have some tentative plans for the Center in the near future including the following: * Live Video from the ICC: As the first major trial at the ICC moves forward, we have the potential to host at the Center live viewings of trials and hearings over the next months. These might be supplemented by commentators and experts explaining why a particular procedure or hearing is important. * Online Chats with People in Countries of Concern to the ICC: We are developing a tool that connects SMS text messaging to Second Life that can enable people in low-bandwidth environments to connect with people in virtual worlds via text chat. Some possibilities include holding online discussions with people in Uganda and the Congo to talk about the role of the ICC in their countries.

Linden Lab Upper Management Musical Chairs: SLCN.TV To Air Special Metanomics On The Impact To Virtual World Second Life In Response To Rosedale Stepping Down As CEO Second Life, March 26, 2008 -- The founder and CEO of Linden Lab, Philip Rosedale, is turning in his executive key for a seat on the Board of Directors and the search for his replacement is underway. Many residents in the virtual world of Second Life are left to wonder what will happen in the days to come with their Governor Linden not at the helm, and who will be the chosen successor. Cornell University Professor Robert Bloomfield (Beyers Sellers in Second Life) will host a special edition of Metanomics to derive answers to some difficult questions about the future of Second Life and the impact to the metaverse in response to Rosedale's stepping down as CEO. Questions are abound both in and out of the virtual world. Residents of Second Life are wondering what impact this second major upper management staff change in the last year will bring and how the progressive development of Second Life will maintain its momentum. The direction of the virtual world with this changing of the guard and the impact on real world enterprises with a vested interested in Second Life's virtual economy, or with plans to step into the virtual world market, are in question. Bloomfield (known as Beyers Sellers in Second Life) will be on task to pose these questions and more to one of Second Life's founding investors and current Chairman of the Board, Mitch Kapor. Rosedale will be taking the seat as Chairman of the Board as Mitch Kapor, current Chair, will be moving on to more integral duties under a new title not yet announced by Linden Lab. In a recent aside on topics on tap for the one-on-one with Kapor, Bloomfield offers, "We will talk about his vision for virtual worlds technology and business strategy and, of course, the future of Linden Lab and Second Life."
