Nobody, this is a terrific post, and one of the best discussions of the Magic Circle concept I've read!
The thing about Huizinga's use of it, as I understand is, the rules are different from outside, but if anything *more* consistent, in order to maintain the playspace - which is why a lot of RP tends to the compulsive, to maintain the boundaries of that circle.
LL, otoh, like you said, regards those boundaries as selectively permeable - rather than rules like in football, it has rules like in that old Star Trek episode set on the 1920s world - Fizzbin's rules change as you play, the dealer making them up as you go along.
The usual term for this is "cheating"....
