I didn't make the grade either
I applied for the Metaplace alpha the day the story came out on Slashdot a while back. Took the time to write a wonderful application, and didn't make the grade either, if that's any consolation.
I'm excited about a lot of the ideas of Metaplace. But for now, I agree with your assessment: yawn, for now. But I'm always watching for when the SL killer will come around! The state of SL right now reminds me of what Prodigy and AOL were like in the late 80's when 1200 baud modems were state of the art, before the internet came to the masses.
