IBM Union Strike Update
The IBM Union Strike page, states that the strike will take place between 25-30 September 2007. For those of you just tuning in, this is what it is about:
...During the talks to renew IBM’s Italian internal collective agreement, the works council, supported by the majority of IBM Italy employees, asked for a small salary increase. IBM responded by cancelling their "productive results benefit", resulting in a loss of €1000 per year for each employee...
Again, I'm a bit surprised [w:IBM] has allowed this to get so visible; perhaps they intend to see it just roll by. It has been reported in the media quite a bit.
As I've said before, this strike is interesting as a means of attempting to affecting some form of social change - that this is tied to money which affects workers does make it more solid, but I am uncertain how it will play out. Will it be enough or too much?
It seems we'll find out soon enough.
