Geyl Fapp Memorial
5 April 2008: There is an allegation that this is a hoax. In lieu of actual facts, which I must admit are lacking either way, I must now hold this in question until more concrete facts are presented. This memorial began due to my belief that people would not lie about such things. However, as someone interested in facts, I must admit a lack of facts. I fully expect the truth will come out either way. Please present facts. When I return from my retreat, I shall deal with this if no one else has.
On the 29th of March, 2008, Geyl Fapp passed away at 12:44AM (GMT+1). She was surrounded by her family and friends, and left a legacy for those she was close to in Second Life®.
Konner McDonnell and I have spoken with Vincent Sideways, and this is to be a Memorial page - at least for now. Below are the videos of Geyl Fapp's End Game, as well as a link to her photos on Flickr. Anything else related to Geyl Fapp is not only welcomed, but encouraged. You can IM me inworld or leave a comment.

This memorial, in time, may move elsewhere, and I will assist with that move as necessary.

GEYL FAPP isn't dead!
its a HOAX

Why the silence
Everybody in the English speaking world is being real silent about this wonder why
Well, as for myself...
No one has really said anything concrete one way or another. What should I do? Speculate wildly? Plenty of other people to do that. I'll just wait and see. The truth has a funny habit of showing itself.

If this is a hoax, I will do my utmost to get to the bottom
of this when I get back on the grid. It would be unfortunate if this were not true. But then, there are things I must really ask at this point - despite the lack of information at the link provided:
(1) Who was Geyl Fapp?
(2) How do we know she really died?
In all honesty, my coverage of this revolved around the assumption that no one would lie about something so serious. And yet, the question now arises and because of it I do not have any answers at this point. True or false, I admit a failure based on my inherent belief that people are good (despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary).
I am quite disturbed by this. But regardless, the truth will come out when I get back, or hopefully before. If she is, in fact, dead, then a bad link to a bad link will not suffice to make this a falsehood.
If someone can provide FACTS proving this either way, please post them as soon as humanly possible.
Please and thank you.

Godspeed
I had a chance to spend some time today at Geyl's memorial in SL. I watched Geyl's movie about her life and friends, as I watched those same friends paying quiet tribute to her at the memorial site - to this remarkable woman that has been taken from them so young. I knew Geyl as a sweet, dynamic, funny, and incredibly positive woman - she struck me as someone with boundless energy that simply repelled anything negative and wrestled the world around her into something more positive, something filled with friendship and love and laughter. That she did this, knowing that her endgame approached, is humbling and inspiring.
After watching "Endgame", smiling and crying all at once, I feel no pity for Geyl - I get the sense that she would not have liked that at all. Instead, I feel inspired to learn from her message of love and trust - to take the gift of perspective she has given us - showing us what is truly important and what is simply white noise. There was no white noise in Geyl's world, though God knows she had more reason to hear it than any of us does. And now - the singing of angels fills it.
Godspeed Geyl. You are loved. And we miss you.
EDIT: Unless this is a hoax... I hear that people that donated to the Endgame fund have had their money returned - and I waded through a translated version of all 15 pages of the dutch forums mentioned above... sigh If it turns out to be a hoax - then I think I will have to wear a tag that says "Sucker" for about a week. dd

I only met her once...
...but once was enough. Barely out of her teens, Geyl possessed ancient wisdom and youthful resilience. I'd read her blogs and gained a profound respect for her emphasis on trust. I met her at a CEO meeting only a few weeks ago. She was in a great deal of pain, but it found her undeterred. It's common to think of shareholders and CEO as a business-only relationship, but Geyl treated investors as family. She treated strangers as welcomed guests. Every person was worth knowing. Every conversation had value.
Geyl's legacy is cemented with this final work, the bridging of the dichotomy of virtual/real with a singular emphasis on the investments we make in all facets of our lives, irrespective of the mechanisms involved in perceiving and experiencing them. Virtual is no less real. Avatars are no less human. When we give of ourselves and risk knowing others, regardless of the platform, we engage in a very human activity that may enrich and full our lives.
Though I did not know you well, Geyl, I feel that I understand you. And for your contributions and strength, I am indebted and eternally grateful.
Geyl Fapp
I'm shock to see this happen and at such a young age she was. Geyl was a really beautiful person and as well as a kind person everyday that I work at the WSE and she would be there. I enjoy always speaking with her because she always had something good to say she such a creative individual. The WSE Staff will Greatly miss her and I'd like to say that she will be dearly miss for her creative art work. May you Rest IN Peace Geyl Fapp.
Kind Regards,
